(Richmond, VA) July 9, 2017 – It has come to the attention of the Virginia Association of Naturopathic Physicians (VAANP) that a Virginia Beach, Virginia, naturopathic physician was arrested on allegations that he committed sexual batteries while conducting physical examinations.
The VAANP acknowledges that, at present, naturopathic physicians are not licensed to practice naturopathic medicine in Virginia. Consequently, naturopathic physicians are not permitted to conduct physical examinations.
The VAANP is the professional association of naturopathic physicians in Virginia. Only graduates of accredited four-year residential naturopathic medical schools are eligible for VAANP membership. Additionally, VAANP members must be licensed in at least one jurisdiction or be eligible to be licensed. Nineteen states and the District of Columbia currently regulate the practice of naturopathic medicine and license naturopathic physicians.
Graduates of online or correspondence natural medicine or health courses are ineligible for VAANP membership. Graduates of such courses are not licensable in any of the jurisdictions that regulate the practice of naturopathic medicine.
The VAANP advocates for the licensing of the practice of naturopathic medicine in Virginia.
The VAANP is an affiliate of the American Association of Naturopathic Physicians.
